Ella is a very pretty and shy little budgie. She likes being with a calmer budgie that can reassure her that the world is an ok place for her. She enjoys an occasional grooming from her current cagemate, Reese, but seems most interested in having another set of eyes on the world. She is not very food motivated but has figured out millet spray and will nibble broccoli. Pellets are still not a top choice, but she will eat a few if they are mixed into her food. Ella has a flight restriction from the vet and should be kept in a shorter cage. She can get around fairly well, but does have previous injuries so they recommend limiting the height she could fall from. Ella has not learned to enjoy humans as much as she enjoys other budgies, but she has made progress towards tolerance. She appreciates a gentle verbal announcement when approached so she knows you are coming, advanced warning of where the hand is going and why (e.g. showing food container for feeding, etc.), and calm reassurance that she is a VERY brave and pretty bird.
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
