I`m Bekwee, an Orange-winged Amazon Parrot. I`ve come back to Mickaboo with my soul mate Fritz, after years of wonderful adventures together. I`m about 31 years old and still have a lot of life to live!

Fritz and I met in Mickaboo`s care and now we are best buddies and cannot be separated. Fritz is a little more slow and wobbly, but I love him and we preen each other and need to stay together.

In terms of care, I don`t need any medication, but my beak does need regular trims as it is not completely aligned. It is not a serious issue, and I only need a beak trim maybe 2-3 times a year, but it should be done by an avian veterinarian. Please don`t ask others to do it as my beak is quite thick and it really will be best groomed by an avian vet.

I am not really comfortable with hands, but if you offer me a rope perch I will step up really nicely and I can be brought out to a play top or play stand where I can forage or preen for a while. Fritz will follow if he can see that I am already somewhere interesting nearby, you just have to be very careful with him to make sure he can safely join me - he needs a soft landing underneath him.

I am able to fly and I will fly-hop between perches if you let me out. I will benefit from being able to exercise while you make sure that Fritz is safe from being hurt from any fall while we are out. My grip is much better than Fritz`s. I would be so sad if Fritz got hurt, he`s my buddy! Rope perches are a good idea to make it easier and safer for us to hang out together.

I`m on a good diet of Harrisons pellets, large Nutri-An cakes and veggies. I do enjoy pieces of fruit, especially an orange slice. I love little nut treats and I will come right up to take a treat from your hand.. I just don`t want to step up for you, ok? Hands are kinda scary, so please move slowly with your hands around us, and then we`ll feel more comfortable.
