As Stupid the Bird continues to cover for Diamond Lil, a parody of this type strip in which Lil and Edna ogle Lil's next-door neighbor while he does yard work.

I have realized, as we continue this story arc where Stupid the Bird fills in for Diamond Lil, that many of the jokes don't make sense unless one is a regular reader of the strip.
For example, Lil and her best friend Edna -- both senior citizens -- often interact while looking out the window, as in this strip (a parallel to this one).
