I`m Rumi, a green-cheeked conure, and my past is kind of a mystery. A few months ago I landed in a garage, half-starved and feather-scrappy, but since then a lot has changed. I'm up a solid ten grams, thank you very much — not that I'm counting, but somebody around here is. Turns out food security does wonders for the soul and the scale.

And let me tell you, the menu? Top tier. We're talkin' Harrison's pellets — gourmet stuff, really — with a rotating spread of millet, bell pepper, carrots, kale, cilantro, apple, and banana. Oh, and Nutri-Cakes? Life-changing. Whoever invented those deserves a statue made of sunflower seeds.

I'm still working on growing in all my feathers — came into Mickaboo looking like I'd lost a bar fight with a ceiling fan — but the fluff's filling out. There's color where there used to be gaps. Progress. That doesn`t stop me from flying incredibly well.

Right now, I'm bunking with two other green cheeks. They're nothing like me, personality-wise, but somehow, I've managed to become friends with both of them. I guess I'm just that charming. We share food bowls like polite dinner guests at a fancy brunch, but if treats are involved, all bets are off. I will snatch your treat, even if I like you. Love makes you bold.

Toys? Oh yeah. I play with all the toys. Especially the shreddable ones. If you're soft, woven, or chewable, it's over for you. The sola balls never stood a chance. I turned them into confetti within hours. There's just something satisfying about turning chaos into mulch. Enrichment? Nailed it.

Humans? Still not my go-to species, but I'm coming around. I'll step on a finger — briefly, reluctantly — and stay longer if there's a bribe involved. I'm super smart, though. I follow instructions like ”go to your perch” and ”back to your cage,” and I've got the basics of target training down. Imagine what I'll accomplish when I really trust someone. The potential? It's there. It's loud. And it`ll involve more treats.

The humans I've met have all been gentle, patient, and kind. I've only bitten once — nail trim situation — and even then, I was pretty restrained. Overall? I'm well-mannered. Curious. Funny. I definitely prefer feathered company, but — and this is new — I've recently discovered the joy of bedtime cuddles with a human. Especially when my bird friends are there too. One big cuddle pile, warm and sleepy, with soft murmurs and fluffed-up feathers. It's not the wild, open sky, but it feels a lot like peace.
