Hello! I`m Dandelion, a seven-year-old lady with a lot of spunk and a sweet tweet. My owner couldn`t care for me anymore, so my foster mom took me in July 2021.
And I am doing well. I went through a spate of egg-laying on the floor of the cage when there was a young male in with our female flock. He was adopted, and I immediately stopped laying. So my forever home should definitely be an all female flock!I am currently living with two other hens. I was defensive of my space when they first moved in even though every toy, feeding dish, and perch in the cage was changed prior to the move! We have three separate feeding dishes & three different watering stations and we all get along fine now.
I eat a quality budgie mix supplemented with chia, quinoa, flax, celery seeds, sichuan peppercorns, fennel seeds, dried dill, oregano, basil, parsley, cilantro, thyme, and tarragon. I also get human-grade freeze-dried fruits & veggies (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, mango, bananas, corn, bell pepper). I get fresh veggies & fruits on days when my foster parent is home to remove leftovers before they spoil (grated carrot, fresh organic herbs, peas, green beans).
I am conflicted about human interaction. When offered a finger, I will jump up to it, but then I bite the finger and ruffle my feathers! I don`t break the skin, but it`s not a playful or friendly either. Even sprigs of millet haven`t yet helped tame me down.

Can you find it in your heart to give this older girl a forever home?
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
