yellow finch perching on a branch with a holiday ornament in the background Welcome to Mickaboo's Annual Holiday Party & Funraiser. We are proud to say this is our 28th year of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming parrots in Northern California!  This page holds all the information about the virtual events we're hosting for you.

The festivities started on December 1, 9 pm PT (Dec 2, midnight ET) with a GlobalGiving matching gift campaign!  This GlobalGiving campaign has ended. THANK YOU for your generosity! Your help, together with matching gifts, raised over $16K toward our $50K fundraising goal for this period.

Our online auction runs from December 2, 9 am PT - December 7, 3:00 pm PT. Treat yourself, friends and family with our wonderful collection of items, from original art to bird toys to jewelry to stocking stuffers. Great gifts for you or others! Proceeds help our 450+ flock of rescued birds with necessary veterinary care. MANY MANY thanks to those who donated the silent auction items - we will post the donor list soon.

Breaking News!

An anonymous supporter is matching all donations made today, Sunday 12/7 until midnight PT, to help Mickaboo reach its $50,000 fundraising goal. The donor will add $1 for every $3 you give (33% match rate). Your $30 gift becomes $40, $100 becomes $133, etc!  No giving limits!  You may donate through our auction (green Donate button at the upper right) or through the links at Mickaboo's website

On December 7, we will host entertaining and educational online events for you. Use this link to register to watch on Zoom. After registration, you'll receive the Zoom link to use on the day of the event, and you will get reminders from Zoom. We are using one link for all presentations. Drop in whenever you want!

01:00 pm PT: Birding presentation, by Whitney Grover, Director of Conservation for Golden Gate Bird Alliance

Wild birds are all around us, even in our dense urban areas. In this presentation we'll discuss the importance of wild birds and their ecology and how we can make our cities safer for birds and other wildlife. We'll learn about how to get into birding, identifying birds, and becoming familiar with the most common Bay Area species.

02:00 pm PT:  Estate Planning to Protect You and Your Beloved Pets, presented by Alyssa Chow

Alyssa will discuss the key estate planning documents that you should have to protect you and your furry or feathered companion animals during your lifetime, and the thought process behind those documents. A proper plan is critical to ensure that not only you, but also your nonhuman friends, are cared for if you are no longer able to do so yourself, whether due to temporary or permanent incapacity.

Alyssa Eriko Chow has her own law firm which serves communities throughout Northern California in the area of Trusts and Estates, and with assisting individuals and families with their estate planning, trust/estate administration, and probate-related needs. Alyssa holds her B.A. in Communications and Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, and her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.  Alyssa has volunteered for and maintained a relationship with ACC Senior Services. Alyssa regularly provides live webinars to help people understand the basics of estate planning. While she was completing her undergraduate degree in San Diego she was a frequent supporter of an exotic bird sanctuary! There she learned first-hand about the importance of making plans for your companion bird’s future.

03:00 pm PT: Auction wrap-up and party

During this informal virtual party, we'll watch the drama marking the end of the online auction.  Ask your questions about payment and delivery arrangements! We will also use this time for volunteers and supporters to reconnect with each other in an informal way.

Mickaboo continues to exist and help the birds and guardians who need us because of YOUR generosity. Any gift, no matter the size, will be appreciated by our many volunteers who care for the birds in our care. Please give to help our birds - and get a tax deduction (subject to IRS guidelines).
