Hi there! I`m Barbie, a cute little girl who came in to Mickaboo in March 2021 after being abandoned outside a local Petco. Isn`t that horrible? But I got lucky, because one of the employees got me connected with Mickaboo and straight to the vet`s office. I am overweight due to a hormonal issue and one wing is has permanent soft tissue damage so sadly I cannot fly.
Although I hang with my fellow foster budgies a lot of the time, due to my weight issue, I need to be fed in my own cage because I will overeat in a shared cage situation. My foster mom says I am super sweet, can step up, and will do so easily once outside of my cage, though given my weight, my balance isn’t great, so stepping up on just a finger can be challenging. I`m not too keen on stepping up when I`m inside the cage, I will cling to the bars and hold on tight! Once I move to a perch you can scoop me up, but once out of my cage I always try to fly and end up on the floor due to that darn wing injury. I am fairly comfortable with people, and fine if you make kissy-faces with me. But darn it I wish I could fly cause I just really really wanna do that so away I`ll go...and right down to the ground.
Could you find it in your heart to try me in YOUR forever home?
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
