What’s New with MickaCoo
By Elizabeth Young, Founding Director of MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue
There’s a lot happening with MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue these days, including big successes as well as formidable challenges
In 2011, thanks to the incredible support of our foster volunteers, MickaCoo was able to rescue 361 pigeons and doves that would otherwise have been killed and placed 333 in wonderful forever homes. Even so the need continues and MickaCoo urgently needs new foster homes and adopters for doves and pigeons. We must relocate 40 birds as soon as possible. Pigeons and doves are easy to care for and are very charming companions - whether as indoor pets or year-round outside in an aviary. |
And MickaCoo will support you every step of the way. We even have some used cages and aviaries available. If you can help, please contact Elizabeth at AdoptKings@gmail.com.
Prior to MickaCoo, Bay Area animal shelters routinely killed the vast majority of the domestic pigeons and doves they received (for lack of adopters). Since 2007, MickaCoo has been working hard to increase awareness about and build compassion for these birds and it is working! We are very excited to report that shelters are becoming more active in publicizing and placing the pigeons they get (rather than relying only on MickaCoo). |
We are thrilled that the Peninsula Humane Society has a Pigeon Room in their new shelter, is including them at mobile adoptions and will wow the crowd with pigeons in pants in their upcoming Fashion Show! Another MickaCoo dream come true is the SF Animal Care & Control’s fostering of king pigeons in their lobby which is helping to introduce many more people to these too often overlooked and underserved birds.
Your support and involvement makes a life and death difference for the pigeons and doves MickaCoo helps. Thank you so very much for helping MickaCoo to do “the impossible”. Your help - in all the many, many ways you give it - from liking our Facebook page to subscribing to our newsletter, building aviaries, buying MickaCoo T-shirts, volunteering at outreach and adoption and fundraising events, donating, adopting and so many more, is what enables MickaCoo to do what we do. Without you, we couldn’t help all these innocents. Thank you. |
