The very big, 2-day Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon (jointly sponsored by SF ACC & SF SPCA and located at 1200 15th Street, SF, CA) is happening Saturday 6/9 and Sun 6/10 and MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue has lots of shifts that we need to cover! (It would be ideal if we could have 3 people there to cover each of 4 shifts.) Saturday 10-2 Saturday 1-5 Sunday 10-2 Sunday 1-5 Can you volunteer? If so, we'd LOVE to have your help! OT Sort Of: Please Help Get the Word Out About NEVER Releasing Store Bought Birds

Just got a call from a nice employee at Evergreen Cemetery that managed to save 6 of a flock of white doves "released" at a funeral. The mourners had to pull them out of the cage and throw them in the air but even so, only a few flew anywhere. One was hawk-struck, another run over... others flew away (but they won't survive). We all know people who will be having weddings, funerals, graduations and other ceremonies... ‎*PLEASE SHARE & CROSS-POST* *Never buy and release birds* for weddings, funerals or other ceremonies. White doves and other birds (like king pigeons) sold to you have NO homing or survival skills and will suffer and die, bringing neither joy nor honor to any occasion. Releasing store-bought birds is both cruel and illegal. If someone must release live birds, they need to HIRE a professional who will release trained white homing pigeons, 95% of whom will survive and get home (as opposed to the 0% who survive being store-bought and "released"). PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND COLLEAGUES- THIS HAPPENS A LOT! Thank you.
