New Aviary coming on line in Pacifica

Hello! For the past three weekends I have been preparing my yard for a new larger aviary in my yard to help foster rescued Pigeons. I currently have three pet Pigeons, two I personally found in Pacifica called Dovee and Jan and Mandee a homing pigeon I was fostering that I adopted. I also am fostering Teddy (King) / Chase (Blind Racer) and two Homers who fell in love in my office called Miles and Macy. My current Aviary is a sturdy metal structure 6 feet high, 4 feet wide and 7 feet long. I can put 4 to 6 pigeons, 6 only if they are the right temper for my Two Strong Boys Dovee and Teddy. Mandee gets chased all over if I put her in the smaller aviary. This Aviary once my new on is built will be available to disassemble and move to a new home that can foster Doves. The cage is more suited for smaller birds really. So hint hint anyone who is thinking about adding a Dove Foster Aviary, MickaCoo has two, one already available! The first steps to getting ready was to move my existing Aviary and I went ahead and did a deep clean on that. The following weekend I have 5 friends over and we had a digging party and dug out 8 by 14 feet, 7 to nine inches deep. Elizabeth from MickaCoo came and the others were good friends Mike, Linda, Debbie and Denise (catered to us with food all day). I have been working on moving some plants and dirt around and we have made two trips for supplies (one or two more to go) and I have ordered the pea gravel. My Brother Tom (Carpender and Contractor) is doing the entire build out donating his labor whilst I am at work on Wednesday and Thursday. The weekend I will most likely be working at getting the pea gravel in, maybe paining the exterior walls and a trip to buy materials to install some perches. and shelves. The final wire and roof will be done as my brother has time from the weekend into the next week:) I hope to have an open house in the next month or so to see the aviary and meet all the pigeons. House/cat/bird sitter needed in SF, Sept 8 - Sept 21

Hi, My wife and I will go on vacation for 2.5 weeks to Europe in September, and we need someone to take care of our three cats and seven pigeons, as well as our house. Must be someone who is is experienced and good with animals, particularly cats (as the birds are very easy to take care of). Should be someone who can spend some time during the day and stay at the house overnight, and who can check in daily with us on email. Our house is in San Francisco, in the "Outer Mission", a quiet and residential neighborhood close to Daly City. We have all amenities (well, almost: no TV), broadband WiFi, lots of books, large vegetable garden in the back and a nice (vegan) kitchen. It's a nice house and we're cool people. Elizabeth, I¹m sorry this is getting so stressful, but Mickacoo can¹t be the only savior for these birds in need neither can Mickaboo for that matter. I was talking to my vet tech today about what¹s going on and he doesn¹t understand why the shelters aren¹t getting more involved in trying to place birds. So my question is is that maybe the next step to educate shelters about how to find new loving homes for birds, the way they do for dogs and cats? I know Andy¹s Pet shop, once they find a new location, will be devoting themselves to finding new homes for pets in need, so maybe it¹s about more community outreach and education and working to get more of the pet stores involved in the process. One of the comments from the LA times article addressed the comment that if pet stores didn¹t sell animals, they couldn¹t sell food. The writer¹s response was, but if you had more adoption fairs, they could still sell the food to take care of the animal they just adopted. As a newcomer to all of this it seems that Mickacoo and Mickaboo are in triage mode, so reacting to needs rather than figuring out if that¹s even the best reaction. Just like the stream about the parrot, that was really just being boarded and someone made a clerical error. If everything is rush to save, rather than finding a bigger way to solve the problem, I¹m not sure it¹s doing anyone any good for the long haul. As Robert said, he¹s running out of enthusiasm, but at least has Clint on his side. Not everyone can find the strength to keep going nor has the bandwidth to do anything, and none of us can healthfully do it forever. I know August is almost here and you wanted us to brainstorm some solutions. Well here¹s my first thoughts towards finding a better way, rather than just fighting fires and always on high alert. If we all go crazy, no one will be helping the birds. As a coach, we always talk about holding the space for our clients to play a bigger game it¹s all about finding a more universal solution, not working harder or longer hours. And Robert, if you and Clint are up to this weekend, great and if you need a break, that¹s ok too. If we all lose our minds, we can¹t help the birds. Sending out all my love and support. Just wanted to let you know

Hello- I just wanted to let you know that I've needed to turn away 2 injured feral pigeons and 3 want-to-surrender doves (all from different people) in the past 36 hours. That's how things are going right now. MickaCoo is full and I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I've provided extensive offers of support and referrals to potential resources. Even so, it feels terrible. This rescue stuff is really, really tough. I don't know that I'm doing y'all any favors sharing this sad news but it seems important to communicate all sides of the story. What should I do? I feel like we're all full up (Zann- you're going to be). Do I just keep dropping everything and going to get pij in need or ??? Advice would be welcome. I'm not sure what makes sense any more and what doesn't. On the one hand, dropping everything and helping a sick bird makes all the sense in the world. On the other hand... that's crazy, right?
