I agree that we need to be careful about handing out free coupons for something that is already free. With all due respect, I'm sure that someone would call us on that; the only question is, would they make it sound campy ot would they make it sound like a ripoff? I am thinking that a schedule card, similar to those given out by sports teams, with a list of all upcoming classes in the next 3 months, and a URL to our event calendar, would be a better giveaway, either separately or along with the boilerplate PR card. That presupposes a fairly stable schedule of classes and that somebody will cobble together such a schedule card. I should be able to do the latter. Pam, are the PR cards on the wiki? I'm not sure what happened to them after I delivered them. --VH From: media-advisors-bounces@mickaboo.org [mailto:media-advisors-bounces@mickaboo.org] On Behalf Of Lee, Pamela A Sent: Friday, January 14, 2011 12:17 PM To: media-advisors@mickaboo.org Subject: [Media-advisors] business cards Mickaboo has a supply of business cards (thanks to Vinny) ready to hand out. Anyway. who's following on this idea? Patty B? or are we just yammering?
I'm not running with this, but it seems to me that the first thing that must happen for this to work is that we need to know what theaters will be running the movie in greater Bay and Sac'to areas. We would probably need to know this at least 3 weeks before opening night so that we'd have time to work with theater management to get their signoff and arrange logistics. And, we would need at least one local point person and some volunteers for each theater. I'm thinking two volunteers per screening, with volunteers taking shifts, so at least 4-6 volunteers per theater that we want to work. Most movies don't stay on the big screen for longer than 5-6 weeks anymore, and most taper down dramatically after their opening weekend. So we need to be ready on opening night or we will risk greatly diminishing returns on this effort. Patty, do you know whose buttons to push and how to push them to find out where a movie will be playing in advance? --VH

I'd be willing to take a few shifts in the Sac area.

I agree with Vinny's time schedule. I also want to say that it is not deceitful to hand out coupons for a free class. It is marketing a service we provide by emphasizing that it is free. Is it any different than a cashier giving you a coupon to use at the cash register for your purchase? Nobody said that it was deceitful. The concern that Pam raised and with which I agreed was that it could sound - or be perceived as - deceitful, so we would have to be careful how we spin it. I know all too well, regrettably, that there are groups and individuals who will use whatever they can to make us look bad. I still think that the class schedules might be a good way to generate interest that will last past the moment of contact. These can, of course, emphasize that our class is always free. --VH

Sorry, I was out of town for a couple of days. I just found out Friday who the PR person is who's responsible for the film. I don't know them personally but I should be able to get some of this info out of her, and give her a sense of where we're coming from. p On Jan 14, 2011, at 12:39 PM, Vincent J. Hrovat wrote:
