...there's someone out there with an empty quarantine space, we desperately need to get two budgies out of the Watsonville shelter. These birds were seized in the abuse case and there are "suddenly" all kinds of people that want to adopt birds there. We're afraid they are trying to get the birds back for the people from whom they were taken. These little birds have had a terrible life so far, please think about giving them a chance. [Mickaboo Action] 55 Gallon Aquarium Needed

Hi All! We have a Blue Front Amazon with neurological damage currently at one of our avian vets. The bird should be released to a foster home probably next week. The vet has advised that the bird be housed in a hospital tank or large aquarium without perches. If anyone has a 55 gallon tank that is not being used for fish, turtles, etc. that you are willing to loan to the foster parents it would be greatly appreciated. Our setups for special needs large birds is more than limited. The foster home is in the South Bay. Thanks for considering this. Please let me know. Got a call from "Jeri" at Silicon Valley Humane Society. They have a cockatiel that looked OK earlier but is now fluffed up, Jeri feels that something is "off". We probably need to call first thing in the morning.

[Mickaboo Action] Friday Transport of Quail to Sacramento from Martinez area

Hi everyone, We have a quail that we are going to be getting from the Martinez Shelter Friday and there is a woman in Sacramento who is able to take the quail in. The problem is that she does not have a vehicle to meet one of our shelter response team members part way, so we are looking for someone who could meet Robbie Rhodes in the Martinez area to pick up the quail and transport him to his new home. [Mickaboo Action] Morgan Hill eagle & other animals need help

Chloe, Jennifer, Maggie, Katie, and Hanna ~ I am writing to you about the eagle in distress in Morgan Hill and also copying the Mickaboo Discuss and Action Groups. Originally this was reported to Mickaboo as an eagle needing our help but it really involves quite a few more animals, including ponies without water and roosters that appeared to be used for a cockfighting operation. All are kept in what were described as filthy and overcrowded conditions. So far, an agent from Fish & Wildlife (federal agency) has been out to see the eagle only and reports that the jerk keeping them does have a permit for the eagle, and meets the minimum requirements to keep him. The agent also says that the requirements are pretty lenient, so theres nothing he can do. However, since you all have come up with such wonderful suggestions, there are other avenues we can pursue. For one, we need to call the local Humane Society about all the animals this jerk is keeping in such cruel conditions, including the ponies and roosters. Also, the eagle needs a permit from both federal and state agencies. Perhaps the CA state agency is more strict about their requirements for keeping eagles. There is also a suggestion that we call the local falconry club. I have contact info for all these places, as well as further info about the animals in distress. All we need is a few people to follow up (pick up the phone) and make it happen. (I have volunteered to take on the job of Coordinator) If you think you can help with one or more of these things, please contact me offline. Heres the difficulty: the sooner we act, the better: This guy is showing a rental property for about the next 10 days, and by going to view the rental property, one has easy access to view the animals. After hes done showing his rental property, one would have no reason to pass by the area where hes keeping his animals, so it will be that much harder to get a state or Humane Society person out there to check out the conditions. I have talked to the vet at BABH and they believe Calvin is now sufficiently stable to be moved home. He is splinted, now taking 3 meds, and was being tube fed over the weekend. Talk about a tough little bird! While he could be moved tonight, it's already into the rush hour and moving a sick budgie in heavy traffic doesn't seem ideal. So I am asking if anyone can get him from BABH and bring him part way tomorrow (Wednesday) -- Maria can meet you along the way, either near the Bay Bridgie or along the Peninsula. Thanks. Michelle

All, Tomorrow, we need to get Calvin from Bay Area Bird Hospital, where he has been treated for a broken leg and face mites, to his new foster home in Fremont. His foster mom can meet someone part way -- and she'll come up to the Bay Bridge or she'll drive up the Peninsula, whichever works. If you can pick up Calvin from BABH and meet Maria somewhere along the way -- even a little way -- it would be a very good deed. Please give it some thought if you can help. Michelle bc
