[Mickaboo Action] a singing canary in your home

Have you ever wanted a singing canary in your home? Now's your chance! Lemondrop and Vivaldi, our 2 Mickaboo canaries, are looking for a foster home. For those of you accustomed to parrots, canaries are a bird of a different feather . (Sorry, I just can't help myself). Much less messy, much less demanding, and the sounds they make are almost exclusively pleasant. Both canaries come with their own cages, don't take much space, and are easy to feed. Lemondrop is the more easy going laid back of the two. He's sweet and beautiful and charming. He likes to swing and hop around a lot. Vivaldi is the more serious one and has a more beautiful song in my opinion. He really loves to fly and wil flutter his wings a lot if he feels he doesn't have enough fly space. They are currently in my own cages, but I have Mickaboo cages they can be sent along with. They can also come with their own Mickaboo travel cages, their toys, and whatever food I have left over. They will eat pretty much anything. It's amazing to watch them devour new foods! They eat pellets, seeds, grains, legumes, sprouts, eggs, live mealworms, dark leafy greens, broccoli, carrots, peas, corn, pumpkin, winter squash, and just about anything else I put in front of them. They are a joy to watch and listen to.

[Mickaboo Action] Use of the action list

Hello All, There have been some questions recently about what the action list is to be used for, and so the Mickaboo Tech Team thought it would be a good idea to send out our guidelines on what is allowed and what is not. Recently there was some discussion on the Action List that wasn't really appropriate for the scope of this list, and should have been taken elsewhere. The discussion was accidental, but it did prompt us to put the Action list into 'moderation' status. This means that a Mickaboo Tech Team member has to read and approve each post before it appears on the list, which is certainly not something we want for the list in general. We are sorry if anyone posted something that was either bounced back or rejected, but we also want to do our best to not annoy anyone who expects the Action list to contain only emails about things needing urgent attention. So what is the Action List really supposed to be used for? The Action List should only be used to ask for help with something Mickaboo related, especially if it is urgent. These are things like requests for foster homes, help getting birds to and from a vet office, help transporting birds and cages, and pet sitting of Mickaboo birds (requests to watch non-Mickaboo birds are not allowed). This list is not exhaustive, but in general if it's something you need another Mickaboo Action Hero to help with, it's appropriate for the Action List. The Action List can (and in most cases should) also be used to announce that something previously posted to the list has been handled. What do you do if you think you can help? If you can help with an Action request, you should email the person who put the request out directly. Please do not email your response to the Action List. The details of how something is handled should be done off list. This will help ensure that when someone sees "Mickaboo Action" in their inbox, they know it's a request for help and not something to be deleted without reading. To make this easier, we've changed things so that when you hit the reply button in your email program, it will (hopefully) automatically reply to the sender and not the list. It is always good to check though. Once something is taken care of, it's probably a good idea to let the Action List know. The best way to d this is to send another email to the Action List with the same subject, but with the word HANDLED added. Why are we being so mean about this? We're not trying to be mean. But the Action List was originally implemented so that people who wanted to help Mickaboo but did not want to participate in the normal Mickaboo discussions had the option to subscribe to the single list. Also, by restricting what people post to the Action List, we can help ensure that if you see an email with the subject "URGENT" you know it's an urgent request and not simply a reply to something that was urgent days ago. That way you know the email is something that should be read now and not saved for later or simply deleted without reading. But I think the Action List should be used for... The scope of the action list is certainly something that can change as the needs of Mickaboo change. But, the discussion of what the Action List should be is currently NOT an acceptable topic for the Action List and will be moderated out. If you would like to discuss what the Action List should be used for, please do that on the Discussion List. After all, discussion about all things Mickaboo is exactly what that list if for! [Mickaboo Action] Filmore

Filmore, the Mealy amazon, died this afternoon. I know we will all grieve the loss of his life. I just spoke with Bay Area Bird Hospital and in addition to severe respiratory distress he had neurological problems. CJ Hesse and Cecile Sharp and I were all focused on getting him to a warm, safe, loving place for recuperation but it just didn't work. For those of you not current on his situation, he was a stray picked up a few days ago during this terribly cold weather in San Francisco. [Mickaboo Action] Travel to Sherman Oaks

This is about moving two English budgies to Sherman Oaks. A prospective adopter of Winston and Neville is prepared to travel half way to meet them, if anyone is traveling in that direction that might accept two budgie hitchhikers. Halfway might be to San Luis Obispo or Santa Barbara, or Ventura County. Please let me know if you might be going in that direction. These two will happily chat with you all the way down! [Mickaboo Action] Foster home for sick Cockatiel

Hi folks, We were just contacted by a shelter in Reno about a very sick little Cockatiel. He (or she) immediately moved to the top of our list of Cockatiels needing foster homes, because it sounds like he's in pretty bad shape right now. Here's the info we have so far: he's 8 years old, has swollen feet and legs from a leg injury, and is missing many of his feathers. We're working on getting him down to the Bay Area ASAP, and our wonderful Dr. Ferguson will be in touch with the shelter shortly about what they can do to help him in the meantime. Please contact me if you can open your heart and home to this little guy--he really needs our help ASAP! I agree with Heather--there is no need for a tagline with the new name. There is no clear consensus on the tagline, and one can be added in any situation when a tagline is appropriate for that particular purpose. Some outsiders might find some of the suggested taglines a little pretentious--Mickaboo does a world of good, but I don't think we really believe we're going to "save the world" all on our own.
