Thank you! I am so honored and proud to be part of MickaCoo and MickaBoo Companion Bird rescue. I am a volunteer for mostly MickaCoo and have been doing a variety of assignments as needed that works with my schedule. Last Wednesday I was forwarded some phone messages and asked to follow up. One was a rescued abused Chicken Hen called Marcia and the other was a surrender from an owner that did not want him as he was too loud. After returning the calls I posted the requests to find adopters/fosters for the two birds to the MickaBoo/Coo discussion groups. Almost instantly I received responses and information to help me with the Dove (I am a pigeon girl). I had found a home for the chicken, but when called back to did the rescuer and Mr. Dove is in his new foster spot with Kim in Novato. I want to thank everyone who replied to me! You all are just amazing to me!!! I am really happy to spend all my free time and spare money with you and the Pigeons! I would not do it if I did not enJOY it! On Thursday, I attended the first two hours of the SF Pet Sales Ban meeting but has to leave one because I had to feed my flock, get up at 5am, but also I had to return some emails and phone calls about the surrendered Dove. Mr. Dove was too loud and after attempts to try to get him to stay with his wife and babies that only hatched on June 29, after three days it was clear he was just unwanted and if I did not get him out of there, he was going to have to go somewhere and soon. Mr. Dove was purchased at a South East pet store for $10 as a young approx. 6 month old for the hen who became his wife. The owner knew nothing about birds and still knows less than they should. This story could go on a little longer, but the point is that we all know this same story everyday! I was wishing I could have stayed and told this story at the SF Ban Meeting at the end when the comments were for the general public. I was thinking too bad we could not require all pets sold or adopted be chipped with where they came from, so we knew the real story about these innocents. (no real names and towns used, Except from KIM Thanks for opening your place for Mr Dove!!!) I just wanted to share my story of dealing with my first Chicken Rescue and Surrender. The surrender was really a very hard, difficult and uncomfortable thing to deal with but I was so supported by the Mickaboo/Coo support system. Since the owner still has three Doves,(MOM and two babies), I was successful in getting the owner of the surrendered dove to open up and give her information about her set up, classes and the pigeon talk group. I will follow up with her in a few months to see how her Doves are and if she found any training. Thank you all for this and everything I see you doing everyday! I am just down right proud! 2nd request - need new home for Mickaboo Cage

If anyone out there needs a cage for a foster and can come to Cupertino to pick it up, please let Mary Camacho know where it is going. Or, I think the storage space is in Oakland??? Somebody correct me if I¹m wrong, but if you can take it to storage that would be great as well. Sitting in my hallway is not working, and I don¹t have space in my garage. I can even meet you part way as it will fit in an SUV. Cage dimensions are 24²w x 22²d x 33²h overall height is taller as there is a playtop and it¹s on wheels, so there is some storage on the bottom. Bar spacing is around 5/8². Would work for those folks fostering pairs of Cockatiels maybe??? Email me directly if you want to make arrangements. Cheryl

SECOND REQUEST Need foster home for White Dove called Flash

Hi, folks- We really need a safe foster spot for a lone white male dove. All of our dove fosters are already past full and while we can sometimes squeeze in an extra hen, that's really not an option with a dove cock (they're very virile!) Can anybody make room for a foster dove? We'll be working on getting him a longer-term foster/adopter but right now he just needs a safe place... Hello! I just spoke to a woman (925) area code, she is going to write me with her exact location and picture. She has a male dove called Flash and she wants to get rid of him becasue he had babies with her female dove and now the babies are growing there is no room for him! I tried to encourage her to keep him and explained wooden eggs etc... but she said no. I think this birds needs to get placed ASAP. Does anyone have any room to foster a male white Dove called Flash? I would take him in but, I have two fantails incoming next week. Your letters to SF Animal Control & Welfare Commission are welcome

Hello- Many folks have asked how they can express their thoughts on the possible ban on the sale of dogs, cats, small mammals and birds in SF with the Animal Control & Welfare Commissioners <http://www.sfgov2.org/index.aspx?page=369>via e-mail. The Commission does not have a staff (nor a Commission e-mail address) and its members don't publicize their personal e-mail addresses but Commissioner Philip Gerrie has invited me to forward emails that I receive to him. If you'd like to write a letter to the SF Animal Control & Welfare Commissioners about the ban they are considering recommending, please do so and send it to me. I will forward it to Commissioner Philip Gerrie's personal e-mail. Here's what he said when I asked what e-mail address I should refer people to: *"I feel uneasy about e-mail directed directly to me. ACC doesn't have much of a say in our decision making. I have already received some detailed replies from rescues and ACC volunteers. I don't decide on things based on popularity numbers. Forwarding I can handle. Sad news about Delmas the found baby pigeon

Hello- Unfortunately the deformed baby pigeon that Aileen found last night didn't make it. Named Delmas for the road she was found under, she is buried in Aileen's yard and the spot will be marked with a lilac bush. Little Delmas, born into a hard world with the terrible disadvantage of a missing upper beak, didn't live long but she made a lasting impression. Aileen has already emailed her neighborhood association about this little orphan in their midst and told them about MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue<http://www.mickacoo.org/>and encouraged people to donate. She's also sharing Delmas' story on Facebook and Aileen says she's better prepared now for the next little one that needs help. That's a lot for a baby pigeon to accomplish. For me, learning that Delmas didn't survive was painful two ways. I'm saddened that she won the Birdy Lotto too late to reap all the rewards and I'm saddened (and kind of horrified) at the twinge of relief I felt when I realized I wouldn't have to find her a home. The only answer for the latter is more people. We all need more people to help. Aileen has NINE parrots and was still trying to figure out how she could perhaps foster some doves. That's not the answer- most of us are PAST FULL! I know I am and Aileen is too. *We need more people to help us to help the birds.* So please- tell somebody about little Delmas and ask them to get involved. We've got budgies and cockatiels and macaws and amazons and doves and pigeons and volunteer opportunities and donations are needed and there is truly something for everybody!
