News about Rio

Christine from Fox called & says she's working locally on the release of Rio. The theaters who will be carrying the film are still not determined (it's early), but she's interested in how we would like to work with her -- miracle of miracles. She says that, as a promotion, the studio has a couple of ways to help us, and we can spread the word that the film is coming out. She will send us a precis of the story, so we know what it is about (generally), and she's fine about us handing out a few materials about our rescue at locations the movie will be shown (after the film). She visited our site & sees that we have a newsletter. She's hoping we will get the word out on that (pre-release, which means late March, maybe, or very early April)-- I don't know the schedule of the newsletters-- is it due out around then, and/or can we arrange to make it come out around then?? -- And of course we can post on Discuss & any forums we might feel ok about. Details are still to follow, but it sounds pretty good. I'm pleased they are interested. p

Hi all, I'm in touch with the PR person for the film Rio, and I've inquired as to which theaters (between San Jose & SF/Sacramento) will be carrying the film, but apparently they haven't been locked in yet. Still awaiting info, and I'll let you know when/if I find out. best, p

I'm starting to get alternating chills and hot flashes - not a good thing, I'm sure, so I thought I'd get this out while I'm conscious (yes, being a drama queen for a bit...) I have attached the same information in MS Excel and PDF formats. The yellow highlighted percentages speak to our biggest revenue and expense items (contributions and vet bills, respectively). In short... contributions went up by 21%, and vet bills went up by 41%. I'm going to tuck myself into bed now. I had not provided the revenue side earlier - had not been planning on providing full financials since these are unofficial (Mickaboo uses a fiscal year, not a calendar year, for tax reporting). Thanks to Vinnie reminding me (I don't know where my brain has disappeared to), I'm conceptualizing the press release. We have the stats for how much expenses have risen, but I don't see the respective stats for how much donations have dropped. (in % only, not actual dollar amounts) Can someone find or figure out that number? Also- 357 birds surrendered this year is not exceptionally high, making it a non-starter as a press release issue. (I think we had 450 surrendered a few years ago.) (Does the 357 include doves & pigeons?) We can point to the worse condition of birds we do get & maybe-- not conclusively-- attach it to the increase in vet expenses-- but who knows, that could also be attributed to an increase in vet charges per treatment (inflation). An exception might be that more wild-flock members hit us this year, and their med bills are always higher (neurological issues). I'd appreciate any statistics that could help here. p

Here's the scoop: He has a group of non-profits/charitable, local community organizations he says he "kind of cycles through," giving them a (brief) voice on a regular basis (it sounds like he interviews for 15 minutes & edits to 5 minutes). The person who speaks to them (which doesn't have to be the same person) and/or the organization decides the topic for each interview; I'm sure he decides which ones really work for him, too. The first appointment available to us is either today-- he has one slot left, between 2:30pm & 4pm -- or Friday, when he's pretty open. Do we want to open with talking about the wild parrots of SF and how we care for them (Jennifer)? - always a good attention getter. This will also be a venue for talking about Rio, the movie, when it comes out, and macaws in general. I suspect the radio station is not highly listened to, so my hopes are not high that this will give us incredible exposure, but any exposure is good exposure (except that brutal divorce situation), so they say. I don't necessarily think pitching that everyone vote for us on pepsi would be the best way to open? - I'm wondering if we want to save that pitch for March or whenever we go back to that, to give more bang for the buck at that point. What does this group want to do? p
