[Mickaboo Action] The parade of sick of budgies

All, We are indeed being inundated with budgies that are not at their best. Susan Z has kindly offered to foster the two sickly little guys coming out of the local shelters here, but we have an ill budgie that I expect to come over the hill from Watsonville later this week, and the little boy with face mites (posted about previously) that needs to leave the hospital and go into a foster home. In addition, I think a sick budgie is on his way to Roseville B&P via Tom Transport and he will also need a foster home. The urgent need here is someone with quarantine space. Once these little birds are well and out of quarantine, it will be a little easier to find them a longer term foster home. Thank you for even considering this. Michelle

[Mickaboo Action] LARGE CAGES AND CARRIERS AND BIRDS - HELP PLEASE

Hi! The Bermuda Triangle has moved into Northern California and sucked up all the new macaw cages and large foldable plastic carriers. If you know where any of these items are please let me know. These are Mickaboo property and need to be accessible to the whole organization. I have to move three macaws this week and don't have carriers for any of them nor do we have cages for two. OH AND BY THE WAY, I am still looking for several macaw foster homes. (I'm not yelling with the caps - just being dramatic!) Huggy, a Blue & Gold macaw, and Sarge, a Military macaw, need to relocate before the end of the week to a new home. And these guys, who just lost their dad and their mom doesn't want them anymore, are about to be homeless by next weekend. [Mickaboo Action] Urgent 911 budgie in Sacto area needs assist asap

Phone msg received- Kerry Jackson (530) 622-6842 works in a convalescent home where there are a number of budgies. One of the budgies is very sick and they don't have money to take it to a vet. The other budgies are picking on it. Wants to surrender to us ASAP. ------------------------- I called and spoke with Kerry- there are 3 budgies one whom is being picked on badly- looks very sick, losing feathers etc She now has it separated from the others. They can't afford to take it to the vet. Couple places told her they'd euthanize it for her but she doesn't want to do that. She is adopting out the other 2 budgies as she feels terrible about this. We need to get the bird from El Dorado Care Center ( a nsg home) in Placerville. Address is 3280 Washington St Placerville.I feel badly as I knew Placerville and used to work at a different care Center near there. It's too far from me now. Can someone pick up the budgie and take it to Roseville asap! it's now 2:20. Kerry is going to also try to find someone to take it too but doesn't know she can. This week I will be taking three trips- 1) Oakland, San Ramon (2) , Lafayette- cages 2) Dublin- cages (many, and a playstand) 3) SF- will have SOME space for cages. (Picking up the granite slab for the new master bedroom.) SPACE for a bird or birds on all trips with advance notice. If someone remembers the Lafayette and Oakland addresses, so I don't have to go back through old e-mails I would appreciate it. I know, Dublin and San Ramon should be the same trip, but it's impossible. Tom

Hi everyone-- We are having two classes this weekend. One in San Ramon and one in Citrus Heights. From the signups, it looks like the San Ramon class will be at least 30 people. As you all know, we have birds waiting to be surrendered or come out of shelters, so we want to jump on these folks ASAP (metaphorically speaking and in a mellow way ;-) I'm hoping that those of you who do home visits and phone screens can do one or two extra so we can complete approval processes quickly. This is a truly outstanding organization. I now have foster homes for Scooter, Shorty, and Sarge. Anyone ready for a 16 year old Blue & Gold macaw named Huggy? He has only had one owner, who died recently. Huggy was well loved, fed an inadequate diet, and due to illness in family hasn't had much exercise or socialization for a while. He could make your day . I'm taking dibs. Thanks. We just eeked by recently when a great foster home in the Sacto area did an inhouse bird shuffle to make room for Calvin and Spenser, two macaws from the Sacto SPCA. Now we have a surrenderer in the South Bay, whose father died, leaving three macaws - all about 16 years old (Blue & Gold, Severe and Military). These birds will be challenges - diet conversion, socialization, etc. And then the owner of a plucked little Severe named Scooter, who loves to talk and eat peanuts, finally decided to surrender her too. And then we have the macaws that have been in foster care for a while - just waiting patiently for a chance to get it right the next time. Macaws are wonderful - intelligent and sensitive and very entertaining and messy and loud - a lot like a 3 year old kid, who just never gets any older. Want to try one, two, three - let me know. I always say I'm desperate and I always am. Please help me help these big guys (and some little ones) get to a safe and loving place. [Mickaboo Action] Sick Budgie to foster

All, Another sad situation. A budgie recently was taken from a shelter directly to the vet. This little bird has a severe infestation of face mites -- bad enough to put him or her into the same terrible category as Bailla and Rena were when we rescued them. (We cannot presently tell what gender the bird is.) The budgie is still at the vet and needs a foster home to come to. Face mites are -- fortunately -- completely treatable, and the little budgie has had his/her first treatment. Like all Mickaboo birds, this budgie should be kept in a separate room during quarantine, with no contact with other birds. The treatment for the face mites should be complete by the time quarantine ends and s/he will no longer be contagious. This is not -- at this time -- a pretty little bird. S/he is frightened and has had a very bad time recently. If you've never fostered before -- or even if you have in the past but are not presently -- here's a chance to guarantee your future corner in heaven by doing a very good, good deed. Michelle bc
