He has been hand tamed in the past but the owner has not worked with him and he has reverted to some "wild ways". If you have room for a cage about 24" x 24" x 36" that can house a cute little red, white, blue and green guy weighing only about 240 grams please let me know. It is very important that we accept surrender soon since the owner has made threats against the bird's life (some in jest but she has very high levels of frustration with this bird and has personalized his attacks). Hi! Here is another concern to add to your growing list of bird dangers. I just read a message from a woman who is completing the approval process with us to adopt a couple birds. She recently lost her birds while using her MEAT THERMOMETER. She had no idea there was teflon on that product and the birds died. Hi All! We are about to receive our third little White Front Amazon. We currently have Buddy, Marty and soon will have Ellis. Ellis, a former Mickaboo bird adopted 5 years ago, and his owner do not get along. He and several other birds have been allowed to fly free and live uncaged in the owner's bird room. [Mickaboo Action] Foster Home for Brotogeris

We may be getting a Canary Wing Parakeet into Mickaboo in the next week or so. The bird hasn't been surrendered yet, but I'd like to line up a foster home for when/if she is. She is a canary wing, which is a type of Brotogeris. These guys are commonly known as Pocket Parrots because they just love to snuggle up in people's pockets all day! They are sweet little things a tiny bit smaller then a green cheek conure. Not as loud as a conure, probably about on par with a male cockatiel as far as noise level goes. This particular individual plucks around her neck. She was hand fed but poorly socialized. She is scared of people, but then once she is away from the cage she loves for them to cuddle and pet her. She needs someone who will be able to medicate her if she needs it and has time to work on socializing her. Please email me if you're interested in helping this little bird.

These are real "bird scales" and are no where near $100-150.00...that's the great deal part :) Once again for those who do not recall the email sent earlier or can't find it: Sterling Home Products makes 2 models of bird scales -1) Professional Scale Kit - comes with stand and is top of the line (really good if you have multiple birds or foster a lot) this scale retails for about $98.00. We are getting a discounted price of $65.00 when we buy 2-9 scales, $63.00 if we buy 10 or more!2) Hobbist Scale - smaller digital scale come with perch attached I believe. Good for those with smaller flocks. I think this scale retails around $60.00 or somewhere around there (The Perch.net had it for $58.00 someone mentioned). Just my $ .02 - but I think every bird caretaker should have a gram scale, especially those of you who foster Mickaboo birds. Often a bird will be on antibiotics and lose its appetite - as we know birds have high metabolisms and need to eat. If they don't they can rapidly lose weight and develop fatty liver problems (the liver's response to starvation). Often, too, birds experience stress from a recent change of home environments and don't eat well, which can result in the same compromised health. When I have a foster bird it is weighed every other day for the first month and then twice a month there after - the schedule I keep with my own birds. I have a Sterling scale and this is a great price. Please take advantage of this arrangement if you can. Thanks. Hi there-- Two lovebirds have been at For the Birds FOREVER because we haven't had a foster home for them. The bill for boarding is going to be a whopper.......... Anyway, Sarah Moon and Bob Hansen have agreed to foster them, so we'd love to get them on their way to them and off the ticking clock of the boarding fees---not to mention out of a vet hospital and into a loving home!
