Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue was notified of an aviary in Pleasanton, California that was closing;   the person who was managing the aviary and had created the non-profit avian rescue lost rights to the land.  Mickaboo volunteers sprang into action planning transport and placement for as many birds as possible.  On December 20, 2008 volunteers reported to the aviary to catch birds and transfer them to travel cages and prepare them for the journey ahead.  About 2/3 of the birds were moved to sanctuaries in Arizona and Texas--The Oasis & Primarily Primates.

While out-of-state sanctuaries had offered to take many of the birds, they couldn't take all of them.  And many of the birds weren't in the best physical shape for a very long journey due to past injuries and handicaps.  We prepared 82 birds to leave California.  But Mickaboo became responsible for 10 Lovebirds, 12 Cockatiels, 15 Budgies, 2 Conures, 2 Senegals, 3 Ringnecks, 1 Meyers parrot, and 1 Rosella.

Many of the birds we've taken in have already been treated by an avian vet.  And many of the others may be found in need of medical care in the near future.  Your Angel, Guardian Angel or Archangel donation will help defray the cost of vet care these aviary birds incur.  If you'd like to help, please send an email to angels@mickaboo.org.  Let us know whose Angel you'd like to be.  Below are pictures of birds we rescued from this aviary.  Please check back as more pictures will be added as they come in.
