Hi all! To switch from nightly MySQL full dumps (space hogs) to a more space-friendly "monthly fulls, daily incrementals" setup, I am planning to stop the MySQL server late night probably tomorrow, and restart it with --bin-log to enable binary logging. The binary logging will log all queries which alter, or have the capacity to alter, data -- but NOT log reads. It'll result in about a 1% performance decrease but the ability to restore to snapshots in time for MySQL, and about a hundred-fold decrease in required disk space for backups. If anyone has better ideas or think this one is a bad idea, speak now please ;)
