To be fair, sudo access to /bin/vi is hardly a minor promotion; You have the ability to alter anything at all on the system at this point, including the backups, with no recourse. That's precisely why I almost never hand out 'sudo' permissions without carefully creating wrapper scripts first to limit the root-level activity. Mal Raff wrote:
