Mal: Backup I'm working on but I want it to be doing nightly snapshots anyway for now, despite the warning. It's not harming anything. I debugged the user lockout issue this morning with Chloe and am pretty sure that it had to do with a (now fixed) user incorrect password lockout limit which was erroneously locking people out any time they tried to change their password, use a new one, etc. It should be fixed but if anyone else complains we'll have to revisit it. Hi all; We're now upgraded to confluence 3.0 for the wiki. After a day or so of 'stability wear-in' I will begin to add the new archival plugins for Chloe and Stega.

Chloe: When we instituted OTRS, I figured that some queue respondents might not be able to keep up with the queues and that people who emailed us would get impatient and upset if we didn't answer them after multiple attempts. So, the auto-responder includes the advice "If no one answers your email, please email us back with "response needed" in the subject of your email". Because I know that the tech team folks are the type who check our email daily, ANY email that comes into OTRS with "Response needed" goes to the technical queue. It's the very first filter that gets read by the filter software and it helps us be aware if any of the spam filters or other technology are preventing someones' legit mail from going into a coordinator queue. Because Erin sent her @medical email with the subject "Response needed", it went to us. [Mickaboo Techlist] Upgrading Confluence (the wiki)

Hi all; In order to accomplish a few things that the tech team needs to work on, I will be upgrading the wiki this weekend. It will be taken offline for a period of about 30 minutes, during which the website will also mostly be down (except the "our birds" section). Mailing lists and other parts of @mickaboo will be unaffected. The downtime will occur after 8pm but I'm not sure if it'll be Fri, Sat or Sun due to my schedule. Our new Confluence version will be 3.0, upgrading from 2.7 Please let me know if this will cause you any problems. --Matt

[Mickaboo Techlist] Our new development server

Hi all! After some great work by Gaylen and Stega, our Mickaboo development server "Mickaboo 3.0" is online and ready to go! You can get to it in the following ways: HTTP: http://mb3.mickaboo.org SSH/SFTP: Regular connect to mb3.mickaboo.org, port 22 Your password and username are the same as on the production mickaboo server, so give it a shot and see if you can get in. If not, let me know and I'll copy your account over. Wendi, I'm giving you the whole webroot (/home/httpd) to play with and get the new Joomla enabled site running on. Whatever appears on mb3 will be the new site that we show folks. I'll install MySQL for you as soon as I get a chance and give you permissions to it, as well as a "QA" ASM2.2 build within SQL so you'll have tables to play with and such. Gaylen, Mal and I will be sharing the task of helping get stuff done on the server for development work, so anything anyone needs done on it should be sent to THIS list as a request, and the first one of us who can get to it will handle it. I intend to manage this server much like mickaboo.org only in a more loose fashion regarding privileges/access/etc. When we're "ready to go" with the new sites and content, I'll do a security review of stuff and we'll tighten the loose screws before moving content over to the production server. Any questions? :)

Chloe: To go along with your last post about having an additional mailing list, here's an email I sent to discuss@mickaboo in March of this year, after Mike Reed proposed having three lists. I'm not dead-set against it but it's important for us to remember things that have been tried (and failed) in the past so we don't spin our wheels. In the past we had three lists: admins(a)mickaboo.org (for administrativa), discuss(a)mickaboo.org (for discussions) and action(a)mickaboo.org (for requests for action and help). The action(a)mickaboo.org list would get emails relating to people who needed help, calls for fosters, etc. The discussion list would get offtopic stuff, prolonged discussions, etc. However what ended up happening was that most people were on both lists (discuss and action) because they wanted to participate in discussions and help out. Then they complained about getting too many duplicate emails. Another problem we encountered would be that after some time went by, new volunteers would join the discuss list but not the action list because they were "testing the waters". Then when the population of @discuss became significantly higher than @action, the adoption coordinators would begin sending to BOTH lists when they got desparate for help - to make sure that people who were on one list but not the other still got the message. After initially trying to discourage that behavior it was pointed out that it was bringing them positive results -- ie, people who were on discuss but not action would decide that they could help out after all. Finally, people began complaining about getting posts in quintuple (they were on both lists and would get copied twice x two list copies) and the decision was made to simplify things down to just @admins and @discuss, which have legitimately separate missions and interested groups.
