[Mickaboo Techlist] Welcome Steve, and some wiki issues...

Hi all! First, let me welcome Steve to the Mickaboo Tech list. He's got a lot of back-end server and programming skills and I'm hoping he can finally help me reign in the mess of perl, PHP and Java that makes up our back-end code. :) Now, a question about Confluence: Should we open our Mickaboo confluence up to "public registration" to allow the members of the discuss list to register for accounts, and allow the "volunteers" group to be a default group? OR, should we add a few account admins and have people email them an account request? Either way we need a smidge of documentation about how to reset your wiki password, I think, but I'd like to start opening the wiki up to volunteers so they can use the voting booth, post large files, etc. What are your thoughts?

[Mickaboo Techlist] Server Access Problem

Hi Matt: I have changed my password, and downloaded and changed the necessary files from the server (index.html, mickaboo.css, and sideheader.inc.html). I've commented the changed files as well. Unfortunately I do not have complete access to implement these changes: I've attempted to copy the files to xxx.xxx.wrw (i.e. index.html.wrw) then overwrite the file with the new one I've tried to rename the files I've tried to upload my changes to the directories by changing the extensions In all cases using either winSCP or PuTTY access/changes are denied, however I may freely upload/change/etc. to my directory (WRW). Could you please check my access rights when you have a chance? I'd like to check my work up on the site, since my work in Dreamweaver is only a partial representation. I have uploaded my changes to wrw/new. Synopses of my changes are as follows: Index.html: Added News and Announcements for the Sponsorship and Advanced Class Mickaboo.css: added class news as needed to format my additions. Will only affect those areas calling out the class "news" Sideheader.inc.html: Changed Related Links to "Buy From Our Retail Sponsors! <http://mickaboo.org/relatedlinks.html> " per Nancy Matt if you prefer to call me, we're up to 10PM most nights: 415-227-4450 Thanks, Wendi

[Mickaboo Techlist] Changes to website images

Hi all! I've made some changes to the way that ASM outputs Images to the filesystem for web use, due to the growing number of images and thumbnails in a single directory on the server. For each bird, the scripts now output an image into the following places: /media/native/* (original size image) /media/thumbs/100/* (100px thumbnail) /media/thumbs/250/* (250px thumbnail) /media/thumbs/350/* (350px thumbnail for adoption certs). There were over 4,000 images in a single directory and management was getting a bit much. :)

[Mickaboo Techlist] Changes to mickaboo website code

Hi all! Here's the latest change to the mickaboo website code: ============================================================ Bird "Special Info" at the bottom of each birds' bio used to be auto-generated by /usr/scripts/makebirdfiles.pl -- that script now references an include file in /home/httpd/mickaboo/include called specieswarning-*.inc.html (where * is the species ID in ASM). In the specieswarning-*.inc.html file is now where we can place any special information, links to resources, etc - that apply only to that specific species. For examples check out any Amazon or Cockatoo. This notice appears on ALL birds of that species' individual. Additionally I've added a header file to the species overview HTML pages. Check out "Non-Parrot" bird listing for an example. This file resides in /home/httpd/mickaboo/include/speciesheader-*.inc.html (where * is the Species ID as above). This text area allows us to post special notices that apply to people browsing for a certain species of bird. Anyone in the "dev" group can edit these files. An overview of the Species IDs and their corresponding value is in /home/httpd/mickaboo/include/species-guide.txt Before anyone asks, there are two separate files for a reason. The speciesheader-* file appears only on the "Bird species' overview" and is for general notifications regarding that species. However someone can also pull a bird up out of the "See all birds" or "Coming soon" sections. So, the specieswarning file is for specific information to that species. You're correct, it's part of the auto-generated "species-*" files that come out of ASM. However the part that we give species advice with can be split out into an include file, and probably should be. Rather than making just this specific change now, I'd like to add it to my queue when I can take an extra 15 minutes and split the advice out. [Mickaboo Techlist] Admin list settings

Hi guys I set my admins and discuss list to "disabled" for being emailed from the list while in France. I'm not getting discuss but am still getting admins. Just checked and my settings for admins is "disabled" Help? After tonight I don't know when I'll have email access again. ~ Ailsa
