Happy News: "released doves" were homing pigeons
I'm very happy to say, based on this picture, that Mayor Quan released banded homing pigeons (rather than doves or baby king pigeons) which means this was professionally done and that the trained white homers most likely made it home safely (though we do rescue a fair amount of homers too).
