Pigeons have exceptional eyesight and the ferals are always starving. I bet if you showed one a handfull of food (rice, bread or cracker crumbs, french fries, bird seed, whatever) and then tossed the food in front of an open door, it would go for it. (And then stick around looking for more.) Maybe best to leave them alone.
