UPDATE: Wildlife Rescue &/or Roofer help needed

I finally was able to fish out a starling. He's weak but I was able to get
him to swallow 3 small earthworms and a little salty sugar water. I'm
debating whether to bring him in and keep him on heat in a carrier or leave
him outside in the pigeon coop. (It's too late in the day and he's too weak
to release I think.)
He's had a stressful day and I think will be happier out in the coop which
is a familiar element in his landscape (though he's usually looking in
rather than out).
Think a good thought for this bird and refer me a good roof-climber if you
know one, please.
Thanks!

My heater guy is currently here and working on things. Turns out the vent duct is stainless steel (!) and lined with at least half inch thick red clay (brick-lined!) and is undoubtedly the sturdiest thing in my house (and exceedingly overbuilt to vent air if you ask me).
We're working on it...
I'm still going to need a roofer to secure the top so as not to have this happen again.
What a day. For me and the bird, I'm sure. And my heater guy, James, isn't having all that great a time either.
Still waiting to hear back from SF ROMP.

It appears that a feral pigeon has gotten trapped in a sort of tin duct that rises through my house and out through the roof. I *thought* it had mesh over the opening but I think I thought wrong. SFACC has been out and can't really help. I'm waiting on a call back from SF ROMP (recommended by WildCare).
I believe that if someone had the ability to cut into the duct via access through a closet, we might be able to reach the bird. Or, if someone had the proper equipment and expertise to navigate the steep roof, we could perhaps help the trapped bird get out that way.
If you know of anyone who might help- an SF roofer or handyman, please let me know.

Elizabeth, I'm so sorry this happened but he couldn't have picked a better house to get stuck in! I LOVE Starlings! I had a pet Starling for 8 years--the best little pal ever. I lost her a few years ago to lymphoma :( She was smart, funny, so easy to please and full of personality. She ate all of the spiders in my house and she spoke better than any parrot I've ever cared for and imitated all of my other birds. Not that they aren't *all* worth it, but this little one was really worth all of your efforts and I'm sure she's very aware and thankful :-) btw---I would keep her inside unless she really freaks out. tammy On Oct 6, 2010, at 6:34 PM, Elizabeth Young wrote:
