I just posted this on 'Boo, but I though I would ask here too since pij and
doves use nests more than parrots...
Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

Subject: 'Nest' for old, arthritic bird?
To: "mickaboo discussion"
Nikki my ancient CAG has really bad arthritis in her feet and ankles
(diagnosed and being treated by Dr. Speer at MCFB). She chewed up one of
her comfy perches, so it now hangs in a little 'U' and she kinda nestles in
and sits there, and it looks like the way she has shaped it supports her
body more...
I was thinking of maybe trying to get her some sort of nest so she could
lay down comfortably and relax her legs...
Does anyone have an arthritic bird or have tried this? Any thoughts?
I know there's the hormonal aspect of it too and of course I would keep an
eye on that. But its just even with her pain and anti-inflammatory meds
(when she let's us give them to her...) I can tell she is still
uncomfortable. She sometimes lays on the edge of her platform, but its flat
and doesn't support her body so she just kinda squats there....
She is not DNA sexed female either, we just call her a 'her', we don't know
for sure. And she's never had hormone issues in the past, I don't know if
they have hormone problems still when they are at *least* near 60?
I don't know where I would find a nest like thing for her even...
