For the first time in over 4 years of pigeon and dove rescuing, MickaCoo appears to have an outbreak of disease in an aviary. It is suspected that Pancho's death and Pearl's illness are a result of pigeon circovirus, an untreatable immune-suppressing illness that hits young birds. (Pancho was 7 months- older than typical.) Pearl is 4 months. It also appears that Carmine (4 months) and Valiant (3 months) may now have it. Some birds survive if opportunistic infections can be controlled and vital functions supported. This is extremely challenging for a variety of reasons but I feel fortunate that this outbreak is in my aviary (since I have the most time & experience to deal with it) and that we have been SO fortunate for so long in maintaining an amazing level of health among our birds, despite the fact that we prioritize taking in the most ill and injured. Vet bills (though generously discounted) are piling up. If you can help with a donation, it would be incredibly appreciated.
