This baby king pigeon hatched 3/21 at the Wulf foster aviary. It is only the 3rd oops baby pigeon (there were, ahem, a few oops baby doves!) to hatch in a MickaCoo foster in 3.5 years (the first two happened in my aviary). This baby's parents are Scout & Faith. You can see more about them at www.MickaCoo.org and there will be more baby pix
MickaCoo foster pigeons' and doves' real eggs are replaced with fake eggs as birth control (and to delay the hen re-laying for at least a month). With almost 300 pigeons and doves in foster care, we probably pull about 25 real eggs month and on occasion, it is possible to miss one. (We give many of the eggs to the artist J Brooke Patterson who does magical art with them and is a MickaCoo supporter).
Pigeons and doves are very family oriented and it's sad to have to steal their real eggs. I wish I lived in a world with enough compassion and responsibility that our birds could hatch a baby now and then. Click on this link to read more about Pigeon Family Values.
