This picture is in San Diego, my grandma is still alive, but she lives in
Karachi, Pakistan.
My mom grew up in Pakistan, and there are wild parrots there, and she would
take in sick ones and try to make them better. She did that for all sorts
of animals :)
Not much was known about bird care then, but there was a guy on the street
with what would probably equate to two small "budgie" sized cages literally
stuffed with IRNs , my mom ran up to them and opened both the cages and all
the birds flew free. All of them were wild caught birds back then. My
grandma quickly took her away as the guy was angry all his birds aka
products were flying away :)
There were always birds in my house here too, a pair of budgies and a tiel
that all flew into our home and decided to stay, a baby ringneck dove that
we found in our yard as well. The budgies and dove all idolized the
cockatiel ;-p they would follow him around everywhere! (This was like 15
years ago, and none of our birds had cages...back before we knew better
:-/)

That is SO cool!
What a picture. How marvelous that your parents told you the story. Is you grandma still alive? Where was the picture taken?
Did your parents also always like birds?

I was talking about parrot and bird research with my parents earlier today, and my mom told me that even when I was a baby, I loved birds. There was this time when I was a baby, we walked by a flock of pigeons and I would not stopping giggling and laughing! See attached of me and my grandma. :D
They said that ever since I was a kid I liked birds, so its not surprising what I do now ;-p
