Subject: [Mickaboo Discuss] Responsibility -- Urgent
To: discuss <
discuss@mickaboo.org>
All,
I put "responsibility" in the subject line because that is so often the underlying reason for why we do things the way we do in Mickaboo. Taking responsibility for a companion bird means giving him or her a home for life, adequate medical care, and a good diet. It means loving them no matter what. We try to teach it by providing an example.
Sometimes it means doing the right thing, no matter how sad it is.
Someone has contacted us about a male eclectus that has tested positive for PBFD. The owner has other birds and must move the ekkie. If she cannot find a home for him, she will have to euthanize him. He is said to be a gentle bird.
PBFD is always fatal if the bird contracts the disease (sometimes testing positive just means that the bird was exposed), which we believe is the case in this circumstance.
If you have or know of a home that has no birds, or only has birds with PBFD, please consider contacting the family and asking them to consider taking him in. Mickaboo will provide medical care. We need a home that will give him care and comfort for whatever time remains.
Thank you for considering this request.
Michelle
