Elizabeth,
I think it is important to note that many of the shelters that place birds
are Humane Society operated -- at last PHS and MHS are. I don't know what
HACS stands for. SFACC is publicly owned and operated and is unusual for
its level of commitment. Public shelters are rarely funded at an adequate
level and compete with public services such as libraries, police, and fire
for resources. San Jose's last budget cuts were deep and have resulted in
noticeable reductions in services. Every suggestion that funding for
anything other than police or fire should be restored has triggered a huge
public outcry from the police union down here.
Perhaps we should be talking to HSSV about moving toward a broader program
-- which of course means more funding.....

Thank you for sharing this, Sarah. There are also pigeons and a dove at SJACS that are even more at risk as well as several young King pigeons at SFACC that are living on borrowed time. MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue is overfull and I'm personally stretched to the breaking point trying to keep it all together. We cannot take any more birds at this time.
There is a lonesome Diamond Dove at PHS that has a wonderful home waiting for him with Francie Waller in Alta if anyone is headed up that way.
And I'm really concerned about the fact that none of the South Bay animal shelters, not HSSV, SJACS nor SVACA place birds! Any birds that arrive in those shelters must be rescued or they are killed. How is it possible that one of the most community-minded, financially-thriving regions in the country accepts ZERO civic responsibility for homeless pet birds? (Other shelters, such as PHS, SFACC, HACS, MHS do place birds.) Does anyone have the bandwidth to pursue this with South Bay leaders?

Hi all -
You may have heard, PHS has quite a few pigeons that were dumped on them one night that are in danger of euthanasia. This is the ad that PHS posted for them here in SLO county: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/fgs/4195408364.html
Anything anyone can do to help cross post this ad - or another creative version of it - on your own FB page or at pet store, feed store, etc would be greatly appreciated. I fear it's going to take a miracle to place these guys so if anyone can do anything at all to help promote them, the pigeons would greatly appreciate it :)
Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!!
