It's possible that they plan to use a reputable "dove release" company in which case the birds would be white homing pigeons that would return to their home loft with a low risk of harm (though attack from predators and accidental injury are still possible).

Or they may be planning the tragic release of either doves or white king pigeons which would be extremely cruel as both are helpless in the wild and unable to "home".

Perhaps they would like to honor MickaCoo with a donation instead of employing birds to add meaning to their event?

Unbelievably, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors is planning a dove release as part of some commemoration ceremony on Friday, April 22.  Emails are urgently needed to try and prevent these doves from being released:
