I think they're smart to fight this small battle.  If they win it, that will be that.

We have to fight now and again if the AWC recommends it to the Board and win both.

I think, for the most part, the general public will NOT support banning the sale of pets, will think of this as crazy, fringe, PETA, nanny-state, big government run amuk stuff.

I think we should do everything we can to use this opportunity (and it is an amazing one) to GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE:

- EVER-GROWING CRISIS OF UNWANTED PET BIRDS
- TRUE NEEDS OF PET BIRDS
- MYTHS OF ADEQUATE CARE
- ADOPTION INSTEAD OF BUYING AND BREEDING

You know, I am wondering if POPA is not perhaps jumping the gun, since this matter is still under consideration by the Animal Welfare Commission and has not yet been officially presented to the Board. It might make sense to let this work through channels first. A strong show of community support AFTER AWC has approved this idea might have a lot more clout.

Elizabeth I think you are most familiar with the politics here. Comments?

From the flyer:

Of course, one could use that same URL to email the SF Board and Mayor detailing what is wrong with the case presented by “Protect Our Precious Animals” . . . .

Hello-

This was sent to me by a source who wishes to remain anonymous and yet still share it with you.  It is originally from Laurie, owner of Feathered Follies and the sender included this note:

Laurie is the owner of Feathered Follies AND President of CHRP (parrot rescue in Concord.  She sent this out on a huge mailing list asking people to share it with others with this email quote:

"I am attaching a flyer regarding the proposed pet sale ban in San Francisco. Please help with distribution and support.

A foot hold in one area will lead to what animal rights people are going for -- no more companion birds and animals."
