The AAV convention is next week, 8/6 - 8/12 in Seattle, which means that
many avian vets will be out of town and available only on a limited
consultative basis. Having dealt with a quasi-emergency during one of these
events, I know that it can be a challenge to find a veterinarian, and I
suggest that you find out the availability of your preferred avian vet,
select alternatives as needed, and that you not plan on any non-emergency
appointments next week.
Here are some details that I have heard (not all confirmed) about various
avian veterinary clinics in Bay Area:
MCFB / Oakley: All three doctors (Speer, Olsen, Fitzgerald) will be gone.
They will have a substitute vet filling in at their office and will have vet
techs available.
FTB / San Jose: Dr. Van Sant will be out all week, but For the Birds will be
open their regular hours. On Saturday, Dr. Bellinghausen will be in, and,
during the weekdays, Dr. Stern will be in the office.
BABH / San Francisco: Dr. Dustin will be out all week (returning Saturday)
but Dr. Marcucci will be available.
Wildwood / Portola Valley: Dr. Sanders will be out all week and no
veterinarians will be available. However, the office will be open and vet
techs will be available.
Wildwood / San Jose: Dr. Welsh will be out all week. Another veterinarian
will be available but she is new and doesn't have as much avian experience.
