Hello-MickaCoo is more full than we have ever been with 78 pigeons and doves in foster care. There are 5 more on a waiting list hoping to come in. I'm going crazy and, despite my MickaCoo volunteering 40+ hours a week and the help that people are providing, I still can't keep up with all that needs doing. And I just received this email from SFACC:We took in a young king with a left wing fracture this morning. There is a
swollen, red area lump in the left carpal area I think. He is holding the
wing in a normal position. Dr. Bing said fracture. Wondering if you can
take.
Of course, we can always take "one more" but what about tomorrow? There will be another "one more".I truly do not know what to do. I CANNOT support a larger "caseload" than I already am. Unless there is somebody out there who really wants to get a lot more involved as a volunteer (raising funds, supporting foster volunteers, recruiting adopters, transporting to vets, etc.) or somebody who's ready to adopt some pigeons, MickaCoo is going to have to turn away birds like this. (I remember when MickaCoo used to say "eight is enough!" when we had 8 foster pigeons, then being terrified when we had 25 and panic-stricken at 50 fosters. But 78???!!!)WHAT DO RESCUES DO? Resources are finite and the need is infinite. I cannot make the math work.Elizabeth
