One of my ringnecks had a bump on his face yesterday so I isolated him and checked it out.  I was afraid it was pox but it didn’t look like the photos I’ve seen of pox lesions (thankfully I’ve never encountered a case of pox personally).  The bump was in the area of his left ear and it was oozing yellow…yuck.  Dylan didn’t act sick but he was scratching at his ear and opening his beak wide so I could tell it was bothering him.  I took him to the vet today and Dr. Kureshi said it was definitely not pox, but appeared to be an abscess.  He had to put Dylan under to clean it out.  Turns out it was in his ear.  Dr. K pulled out a plug of gunk about ¼” long!  I’d never seen anything like it.  Dylan is now on antibiotics and should make a full recovery.
