Just FYI, Diane built the second aviary in the MickaCoo network (in
Camarillo) for rescued king pigeons and adopted 20. She cares for them and
rescues dogs scheduled for euthanasia in So Cal.

*EVERY ONE....*
Please forward this far and wide. Do not think that this is a problem
specific to the Mid-West or large cities. Puppy mills are a leading cause of
overcrowding in all shelters, *including *Camarillo. There are out of state
puppy mill breeders who literally bring a trunk-full of puppies and sell
them in our local parking lots.
Think of it like this...EVERY puppy brought INTO Ventura County, will cost
the life of a dog already here. If we have 50 potential dog homes and 51
dogs....well, you get the picture.
This may be hard to watch...but not as hard as the alternative.
Thank you.

(My apologies if this is a repeat).
I have sent this information to everyone on my PETS, Inc e-mail list.
*We are asking you to please watch ABC Nightline this Friday at 11:35 EST
concerning** Amish puppy mills**.*
Most of all please forward this information to everyone on *your** *e-mail
list.
The Amish in Pennsylvania, and I suppose just about everywhere, have been
known for years to be one of the worst puppy mill breeders in the United
States (and probably Canada). This came as quite a surprise to me though as
I never imagined these people would treat animals so cruelly and harshly. I
changed my mind when I saw a documentary several years ago. They have
"facilities" where they breed hundreds, even thousands of small breeds under
terrible conditions..
Several times a year they hold huge sales of older worn out small breed
dogs. The conditions of these dogs are beyond description, some are blind,
crippled, etc. But apparently they still havea few more litters left in
them, and are sold at these huge auctions where hundreds of "bottom rung on
the ladder" breeders can pick them up for as little as $10, $15, $25.
Newspeople who have tried to attend have been turned away and thrown off the
property. Hidden cameras showed what was happening inside the barns where
these auctions are held.
It also showed the fields where the Amish grow their crops. A small
airplane took pictures of these fields that were strewn with the carcasses
of little dogs that died in their "care". They use them for fertilizer.
Hard to believe I know,* but that is why you and everyone you know (who
cares about animal welfare) needs to watch this documentary*. It is also why
you must believe it when rescue organizations like us beg you not to buy
puppies from puppy mills, backyard breeders, and pet stores that sell
puppies, and who procure them from puppy mills.
In the past twenty years we have taken in many hundreds of animals rescued
from puppy mills and backkyard breeders, or given us by their owners who are
"retiring". . The conditions they come to us in are horrific and
heartbreaking. The laws are almost non-existent toprotect these unfortunate
animals. Even when brought back to a semblance of good health, many are so
traumatized from their experiences of living in a filthy cage all their
lives, they never recover from their ordeal.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Again, please e-mail and tell
everyone you know about the upcoming show.

*Well friends, once again, the cat is out of the bag - or should we say the
dog out of the hutch! This Friday night, March 27, ABC's Nightline will be
investigating puppy mills! **
**ABC Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi and investigators from Nightline travel
the byways and back roads of *
*Lancaster County, Pennsylvania* *- *
*visiting numerous puppy mills and filming Main Line Animal Rescue's
volunteers as they rescue breeding dogs and puppies from Lancaster County's
notorious Amish commercial breeding facilities. **
This promises to be a very special program. If you are involved in rescue,
advocate on behalf of the millions of puppy mill dogs interned in our
nation's commercial dog breeding facilities, or if you just simply love
animals, you will not want to miss this.
Sharyn Alfonsi interviewed, on camera, an Amish breeder while touring his
facility - a first for network television. With approximately 500 dogs
housed on his property, this commercial breeder speaks openly about an
industry cloaked in secrecy and suspicion - the cruel factory farming of
man's best friend.
PLEASE tell your friends, your family, your coworkers - ABC Nightline
investigates puppy mills - this Friday at 11:35 pm (Eastern Standard Time).
Please take the time to forward this to all the rescues, shelters, and
legislators in your area.
It has been almost one year since Oprah's puppy mill show aired. That
program received the highest viewer response of any Oprah Show in years. Now
we need to spread the word about this very special Nightline. Only by
educating as many people as we can, will we be able to help these animals.
And after you watch the program, please don't hesitate to contact ABC and
Nightline to thank them for casting such a strong light on the plight of our
nation's puppy mill dogs. *
