Every year that I’ve lived in this house except for the last, I’ve had a pair of mourning doves set up a nest in the eaves over my front door. They generally lay at least three clutches of one or two eggs from early spring to at mid-summer, while I go in and out through the garage door to avoid bothering them.
As of this morning they’re back, the male gathering twigs from my still-soaked front landscape while the female settles in. I indulged myself with one quick photograph but will leave them alone from here on, although they don’t seem to mind me that much. I’ve caught them looking in my front window, so maybe they realize that I have birds inside who seem to be doing OK.
