What I use and I think what you may be referring to Mary, is "1/2 inch hardware cloth". I think it works really well. It's really sturdy, I also use it in my vegetable beds to keep gophers out. I even built a "balcony" for my birds so they can sunbathe, out of it. It's stapled to the frame of the aviary.

I buy it from Home Depot. You can get it in 25 or 50 foot rolls, either 3 or 4 feet wide. It costs around a dollar per foot. You will also need a cutter (looks like very sturdy scissors), and work gloves otherwise it will scrape up your hands as you work with it. If you go the stapling route, you will also need a staple gun and staples.

I used 10' cyclone fencing panels, and then zip-typed the wire to the fencing panels and did this for the long sides; I ran out of the wire for the top, so zip tied chicken wire with the smallest openings I could find.  I don't like the chicken wire, so when I get the chance, I'm going to find the other type wire and replace the top.

Hello!  I am currently working on purchasing the building supplies for my Aviary whicg is being built next week sometime between Wednesday and Friday.  In doing so I never knew there were so many options for wire.  I wanted to put a note out to this expert group of people, if you put in an aviary what size and type of wire did you use, where did you purchase it and do you like it, would you do it differently?
