Hello- I will likely have the good fortune to collect some organically certified Chardonnay grapevines from the Terra Savia Winery & Vineyard<http://www.terrasavia.com>in Hopland the coming week or two. (They created an aviary and adopted 14 of our pigeons!) Would folks like them as branches and chewables for their parrots? My car is small so I won't be able to get too big a load BUT if Mickaboo would like to make arrangements to pick up a big load, I can connect you. Hello- For the first time in the 5 years since I started doing this, Bay Area shelters may kill healthy king pigeons that are timing out if we can't figure out an emergency rescue. MickaCoo is over full, the shelters we usually depend on for back up can't take them and we are striking out with finding help for them. There are 8 birds at immediate risk. *If you know of anyone that could provide a safe and decent home for these birds (long-term foster or forever), please put us in touch! Many have been trying for years to end the shooting of live pigeons* in Pennsylvania but now, thanks to SHARK <http://www.sharkonline.org>'s most recent efforts and video coverage<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFUDmBK7IF8&feature=relmfu>of the appalling and indefensible cruelty, there is more momentum than ever. They are not wild or native but instead have been bought or trapped and brought in to PA where they are "released" from traps in the ground (dehydrated and weak from hunger) for shooters to use for live target games. My female Red-bellied parrot, Alias 88 1/2 Chambers, used to do this. I've seen a great deal of variety and creativity in how parrots bathe. My male Red-bellied, Otis, prefers bathing by hanging upside down from one foot, dipping his wings into the water and splashing the water up onto his body by flapping his wings. He whistles "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" while doing this. We all have our idiosyncrasies.
