Last Sunday, their sales were extremely slow, and some developments have recently occurred with investigations/enforcement by the City that should make it even more difficult or impossible to continue business for long. Our continued strong presence there is extremely effective at this point, so please consider helping. The City is rewriting the market’s permit this fall, and if there are no active live poultry vendors there, it will be politically that much easier for the Board of Directors to decide to ban live animal sales going forward. Tweety the rescued lovebird

Hello- You know me- I just have to share this! 20 minutes ago, I got a call from a man named Randy about a "green bird with a red beak" that he found. (The flyers for my lost budgie Bodie are still up in spots throughout my neighborhood.) I grabbed a couple of nets and towels and a cage and drove the 4 blocks to where he was at. Randy had seen this bird and his coworkers wanted to try and catch it with a rake but he knew that would just "tear it up" so he cornered it and put his sweatshirt over it. It worked beautifully because the bird was right where he left it when we got there. I asked Randy to name the bird and he did- Tweety. I told him that if there's a reward for reuniting it with her owner, he'll get it. Hello- Thank you so much for all the support and kind words. I was just able to be in the right place at the right time. I almost didn't go but glad I did. Ban may not happen but I'm very glad birds are now included in the dialogue. PetCo there and talked a great game about how "Adopt First" they are, their Care Sheets, their screening of potential pet buyers, their partnerships with rescues (and they're "talking with Linda of Mickaboo")... Carisa of Rattie Ratz also spoke and did a great job. Supports the ban and/or recommended single-gender rats per store and a hold/delay in purchase of pets (like guns). Upshot- the investigation/consideration of the ban is going to continue and birds will be added to the list of small animals. Leader of Commission expressed currently supporting the ban but agreed to continue investigation. Hi, Gabriella- Doves are easy but bless your heart, Gabriella- you're already doing SO much! *Dove 101:* Proper, safe cage *ü* Needs roof, perches & nest shelf (easy modifications) Food = dove feed, a little grit & oyster shell, greens, fresh water daily Weekly cage cleaning Replace real eggs with fake (about once a month) Doves don't- bite, chew, scream or self-pluck Doves do coo (sometimes loudly) and bathe (water and sun) and flirt and court They're smaller (~125 g) and a little more active and exciting than pigeons but no where near the energy or excitement of a hookbill. e On Wed, Jun 9, 2010 at 10:47 AM, Gabriella Estrella < kittyntwinstarz(a)gmail.com> wrote: > How hard is it to care for doves? How hard is it to care for doves? Do they live outside? I have a big backyard but not much time to devote.
