But the most important story is that there are lots and lots of birds in need of homes. The pigeons and doves that MickaCoo<http://www.mickacoo.org/>rescues are domestic and can't survive in the wild. People have bred them and then abandoned them and they need adopters if they are to escape being euthanized. So please- even if you're full up or not in a position to adopt a bird, *pass this along to others*. It takes a lot of outreach to find a great forever home for a pigeon or dove and YOU can help be a part of that. Please help spread the word. P.S. It is heartbreaking, I know. There are two SFACC volunteers (that I know of) that are spending extra time there to try and help with all the birds. There are four pigeons there too. Starling Didn't Survive

I'm very sad to tell you that the starling rescued from my vent duct didn't make it. Last night, before the worms but after the salty sugar water, the poor thing pooped black water (not blood- I checked). The bottom of the duct is covered with a really fine black powder that I think starling ate. In any case, he looked forlorn at dusk and so I brought him in from the coop and had him in a carrier half-bottomed with a heating pad. I was encouraged when I checked on him at 10 because he had turned away from the low light I had put on to check him. But the poor bird died in the night. I was really hoping he'd be ready to free. The starlings and feral pij bathe in a coop-top bird bath every morning... Elizabeth Y www.RescueReport.org

UPDATE: Wildlife Rescue &/or Roofer help needed

I finally was able to fish out a starling. He's weak but I was able to get him to swallow 3 small earthworms and a little salty sugar water. I'm debating whether to bring him in and keep him on heat in a carrier or leave him outside in the pigeon coop. (It's too late in the day and he's too weak to release I think.) He's had a stressful day and I think will be happier out in the coop which is a familiar element in his landscape (though he's usually looking in rather than out). Think a good thought for this bird and refer me a good roof-climber if you know one, please. Wildlife Rescue &/or Roofer help needed

Hello- It appears that a feral pigeon has gotten trapped in a sort of tin duct that rises through my house and out through the roof. I *thought* it had mesh over the opening but I think I thought wrong. SFACC has been out and can't really help. I'm waiting on a call back from SF ROMP (recommended by WildCare). I believe that if someone had the ability to cut into the duct via access through a closet, we might be able to reach the bird. Or, if someone had the proper equipment and expertise to navigate the steep roof, we could perhaps help the trapped bird get out that way.
