Mary, thanks for the good words. This ties back to my current opinion about the proposed SF legislation, which some people may consider to be very negative and others may find very positive. The bad news is that I think it’s extremely unlikely that any such legislation as that proposed by AWC will pass through SF Board of Supes and be signed by the mayor. At this point, I’m thinking that it’s not even very likely that the Supes will introduce the legislation in the first place. Don’t get me wrong: I will continue to support this proposal for as long as it still has legs. I just don’t think that the time is right for this to get leverage from elected officials, for several reasons. (The opinion I just stated is not being shared with others in general discussions.) The good news is that this proposal and the (albeit mostly negative) publicity that it has generated give us a great sounding board to publicize Mickaboo’s mission, principles, and operations. Every jackass who writes about “guppies” gives us an opportunity to create good publicity for those who will take the time to read it and to think a little. The key, in my opinion, is to stick to OUR guns, to talk about what Mickaboo does and why we do it and the challenges we face, etc. instead of getting into someone else’s pissing match about goldfish. I think this should be one of our primary goals vis-à-vis this proposition, along with supporting the proposition. Thoughts? --VH
