Following MickaCoo's success in their release of an article about Elizabeth and the funding of MickaCoo, we are also interested in getting our message into a national format. Pam is working with Tammy to prepare a release about the founding of Mickaboo to the Care2 newsletter/blog Internet outreach -- I receive their emails, but cannot think of a single category they fit into. Check it out - it's a very interesting mix of information. They are willing to attach a petition to the story if we have an issue or other message we are interested in sponsoring. There are lots of messages we are interested in, and some issues that are more important than others. In our first outing of this kind in a national outlet, we also need to take context into account. Please tell us what you think should be the purpose of a petition at this time. There are lots of possibilities (educated pet ownership--don't buy on a whim; the SF example--don't sell pets in retail outlets; upgrade animal protection laws to give the same levels of protection to birds that are routinely provided to dogs and cats; etc.) We don't have a lot of time - please reply within 24 hours of this email. You can email me directly if you have questions or want to discuss something, or hit "Reply All" to trigger a discussion. -- Michelle *"Corporations are not people. People have hearts, * *they have kids, they get jobs, they get sick, they cry, * *they dance. They live, they love, and they die. * *And that matters....." Elizabeth Warren*

Upgrading animal protection laws to include birds gets my vote for a petition.
Taking Michelle's important point about considering the national audience, "laws should protect birds" seems the best to me because:
1) it is relatively non-controversial - at least by John Q. Public;
2) it does not appear "extreme" or "California nutty";
3) people don't have to do anything that makes them change their own lifestyle/actions. Other people - the politicos , the proverbial "they" ,need to do the heavy lifting and change the laws .
4) changing the laws to include birds may well appeal to people's sense of basic fairness ("why exclude them- birds") which surveys and political analyses have shown is still a part of the American character;
5) it shows Mickaboo in a "for fairness "
light; and,
6) for the reasons listed above and more, I think a petition on this subject might actually have a chance of succeeding.
