Subject: URGENT: please speak out for SF animals
at 11/16 Animal Welfare Commission meeting
Dear fellow animal lovers,
If you care about the fact that adoptable animals
are being killed in San Francisco shelters, and if
you'd like to express your opinion about having
San Francisco become a no-kill city (no, sadly,
San Francisco is NOT a no-kill community), please,
please come to the meeting of the Animal Welfare
Commission next TUESDAY, November 16, starting at
5:30 pm in Room 408.
Please attend, and please spread the word --
forward this email as widely as possible.
The animals of San Francisco thank you.
(The meeting is being held on a Tuesday this month
because of Veterans Day.)
Nadine May
I just wanted to clarify that the meeting is on
TUESDAY November 16th (not Thursday as it is
stated in the agenda).
Thank you.
Please note:
5. Unfinished Business
A) The Commission will discuss and take possible
action to table indefinitely the issue of whether
or not San Francisco should mandate that all city
shelters not euthanize any adoptable animal or any
animal that would be adoptable after behavioral or
medical intervention. The Commission has discussed
various aspects of this issue over the course of
the past two years. In May 2010, the Commission
said it would revisit the issue in three months,
and this agenda item fulfills that commitment.
[Discussion/Action Item] [Commissioner Brooks]
Please come (and bring as many people as you'd
like), speak out and support No Kill in San
Francisco. This may be the last opportunity to
tell the commission that we STILL need legislation
in San Francisco if we want to ensure that truly
adoptable animals are not killed.

yes! Public opinion from all is welcome and many come from outside the

Both SFACC and SF SPCA are opposing the no-kill recommendation. Here's a
note I got from an SFACC volunteer (and MickaCoo supporter) on the topic-
*Thanks for passing this along. It's my group, www.FixSanFrancisco.org that
brought the issue of no kill legislation to the AWC in 2008. Just so you
know, the two largest shelters have fought us and have been as obstructive
as possible. Rebecca Katz has been one of our fiercest opponents, at least
in terms of no kill legislation.
I hope your email can get a lot of people to the meeting. I hope some of
them are not from acc or spca management, as they will support dropping the
whole issue.*

topic-
Thanks for passing this along. It's my group, www.FixSanFrancisco.org
that brought the issue of no kill legislation to the AWC in 2008. Just
so you know, the two largest shelters have fought us and have been as
obstructive as possible. Rebecca Katz has been one of our fiercest
opponents, at least in terms of no kill legislation.
I hope your email can get a lot of people to the meeting. I hope some
of them are not from acc or spca management, as they will support
dropping the whole issue.

Commission meeting
Dear fellow animal lovers,
If you care about the fact that adoptable animals are being killed in
San Francisco shelters, and if you'd like to express your opinion about
having San Francisco become a no-kill city (no, sadly, San Francisco is
NOT a no-kill community), please, please come to the meeting of the
Animal Welfare Commission next TUESDAY, November 16, starting at 5:30 pm
in Room 408.
Please attend, and please spread the word -- forward this email as
widely as possible.
The animals of San Francisco thank you.
(The meeting is being held on a Tuesday this month because of Veterans
Day.)
Nadine May
I just wanted to clarify that the meeting is on TUESDAY November 16th
(not Thursday as it is stated in the agenda).
Thank you.
Please note:
5. Unfinished Business
A) The Commission will discuss and take possible action to table
indefinitely the issue of whether or not San Francisco should mandate
that all city shelters not euthanize any adoptable animal or any animal
that would be adoptable after behavioral or medical intervention. The
Commission has discussed various aspects of this issue over the course
of the past two years. In May 2010, the Commission said it would revisit
the issue in three months, and this agenda item fulfills that
commitment. [Discussion/Action Item] [Commissioner Brooks]
Please come (and bring as many people as you'd like), speak out
and support No Kill in San Francisco. This may be the last opportunity
to tell the commission that we STILL need legislation in San Francisco
if we want to ensure that truly adoptable animals are not killed.

6. New Business
A) Discussion and possible action to send a letter to the
Recreation and Park Department regarding what can be done to improve
communication with the Department about vegetation removal in Golden
Gate Park (and other city parks) and its impact on wildlife and feral
cats. Recent construction at the Sharon Art Studio bulldozed, with
little warning, a clump of thick habitat used by wildlife and feral
cats. The cats had lived there for thirteen years and have not been seen
since the bulldozing. However, vegetation (habitat) removal in the parks
has been and is an ongoing problem. [Discussion/Action Item]

Yes, you can. I live in Alameda County and I spoke
to the Commission about the pet store ban. It also
helps that you are an animal rescue volunteer in
an organization that places animals from the San
Francisco shelters.
