How about, “Don’t breed, don’t buy... adopt a rescued bird!”

I wasn't able to get help with the petition itself but Mickaboo/Coo adopter Sean O'Brien works at Care2 and is very responsive and supportive and helped make our article in the newsletter happen.
Petition site says shorter is better and recommends 150 words (despite which MickaCoo's is 270ish).
One suggestion I would make is to make the title succinct and meaningful as it will be the thing that gets the most attention (in widget, urls shared and tweeted, etc.) and it is what will get people to sign or pass. (The actual petition's wording itself is much less important to gaining sigs I think as most people don't read it all...)

I do not want to commit to doing this, at least until I have resolved a few other stale Mickaboo commitments that I’ve made and which I am sure that you (Pam) are anxious to see resolved expeditiously.
However, as a point of order, is there a guideline or style guide provided by Care2 about how to write a petition to be served by their web site? I found a general set of guidelines at http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Petition which is mostly common-sense advice, but am wondering if Care2 has any more specific advice and information about how, in their experience, we can make a petition that will “pop” and which is consistent with their fit and finish.
Elizabeth, I know that you have worked with Care2 and it sounds like you got some inside information from dealing with them. Any feedback you can provide will be appreciated too.
Thanks.
