Hello-

I thought there was some interesting messages contained in this BAARN digest and so just wanted to pass it along.  This is also a web group that Mickaboo might want to post to about upcoming bird care classes or the need for fosters and adopters, etc...

BAN MEAT IN SAN FRANCISCO

Who wants to BAN MEAT in San Francisco?

A highly-respected San Francisco City Supervisor is, receptive and willing to hear the argument for a ban on meat and dairy, and the positive effects that such a ban would have on the San Francisco economy, health of citizens, environment, and animals. After all, if we can ban plastic bags, what about THE most destructive, dangerous, threatening, and deadly products inexplicably still allowed to be sold?

I need help right now gathering statistical research specific to San Francisco. This is a time-sensitive project that must be completed ASAP. For example, what does heart disease cost San Francisco, cancer, stroke, diabetes, obesity? How much water would be saved by a meat-free dairy-free San Francisco?

If you are able to help, please email Bob@GoVeganRadio.com

Thank You,

Here's an article from one of our rescue partners, Harvest Home Animal
Sanctuary, that addresses the topic of squab. For those of you who haven't
had the pleasure of meeting a "squab", they are incredibly sweet, innocent
and vulnerable little beings. I've attached a picture of MickaCoo-rescued
squab Butters <http://www.rescuereport.org/2010/02/butters.html> who wound
up as a stray at SFACC in Jan 2010. (He's all grown up into a big man bird
now and adopted.) I'd say eating squab is very much like eating a puppy.
Pass it on.

Have you ordered your commemorative Vegan Earth Day T-shirt yet? Don’t forget that when you buy your T-shirt, you also get an admission ticket to Vegan Earth Day (http://www.berkeleyveganearthday.com)!

While you’ve still got a little time to buy your tickets and tee, you only have until the end of the day to order your tee shirt in the size of your choice. After today, T-shirt sizes will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis. While your T-shirt will be amazing no matter what, having the tee in your size makes it that much better—and likely to be worn!

T-shirt’s are currently available in the following sizes for you to choose from:

• Women: S, M, L
• Men: S, M, L, XL, XXL

You can purchase your tickets here: http://www.berkeleyveganearthday.com/tickets/

Thanks!

Humane Lobby Day, April 13 in Sacramento

Posted by: "Sage, Mike" mksage@gmail.com   mk_sage

California Humane Lobby Day this year will be on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. This is a free, all-day event; it begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 4:00 PM. A number of us attended it last year and the year before. Some of us will be participating again this year. Here's a description of the event:

"The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA invite our members, supporters, and other animal advocates to participate in the California Humane Lobby Day in Sacramento, where you'll make a tremendous difference for animals.

This is an exciting opportunity to meet directly with your elected officials and their staff about legislation that will significantly impact animals. There will be a briefing with tips for lobbying, and an overview of pending animal legislation that will prepare you to meet your elected officials and advocate for animals."

The event organizers require that we sign up for it, because they need to determine who the Assemblymember and State Senator for each participant is; they then make appointments with our legislators for us to visit them in their offices in the State Capitol in the afternoon and talk to them regarding upcoming animal-related bills.

To sign up for Humane Lobby Day, go to http://action.humanesociety.org/site/Calendar/1115150951?view=Detail&id=103922 and click the "Sign me up" button.

April 4 is their tentative deadline for people to sign up. Note that there may be a limited number of spots available, so sign up before all the spots are taken. In 2009, sign-ups were closed two days BEFORE the announced deadline because all the spots were taken. If you are unsure about whether you can attend this event, go ahead and sign up for it. You can easily cancel later. After you sign up, the organizers will send you further details about the event. The Humane Society provides a Facebook group page to facilitate carpooling (you post a message in the "Discussion" area of the page).
