I can draft it after we have seen and discussed the proposed
guidelines. I will want to review with Elizabeth Young and Jennifer Erlichman first
about how these guidelines might help feral pigeons and SF Conure flock,
respectively. It’s possible that we might want to judiciously suggest
additions or changes.

seeking support in San Francisco
I
think we should. Do you want to draft it, Vinny, once we get the actual
document?

FYI,
this is, obviously, more for outdoor birds but is somewhat germane to what we
do. I will post the standards document here when it is available. It might make
sense for Mickaboo to send an official statement in support of this proposal.
Standards
for Bird Safe Buildings
On October 7,2010 the San Francisco Planning Department will release a draft
Bird Safe Building Standards document on the Planning Commission's October 14,
2010 agenda at http://www.sfplanning.org/index.aspx?page=2248
The draft document would propose the creation of three tiers of review: 1)
guidelines providing guidance to project sponsors about the potential bird
hazards; 2) requirements for the most hazardous conditions;
and 3) voluntary "birdsafe" certification for building owners who
choose, on their own accord, to meet the guidelines. The proposal discusses
potential negative impacts on resident and migratory birds, comprising
suggested remedies to lessen the hazard through treatments for glazing,
lighting, and other building design and operations application.
Review the document and express your support for bird safe buildings in San
Francisco. Public comment is accepted via email to the Commissioners or for a
couple minutes at the hearing.
