I'm with Marcie.  The guest editorial page of the Chron isn't where we want to push emotional appeal.  I thought of it as more of a mainstream communication.

Fortunately, my co-writer and my husband helped tone down what I was writing instead. Almost everyone else has really praised the professionalism and writing of these three pieces. I would have liked to see Sally Stephens piece be stronger in tone, but I can see why she may have toned it down.
I don't think that this So. Cal bird rescuer is correct and I think that the more "normal" and less argumentative we can come across, the better to the general public. To each other we can communicate more strongly.   
Is there a reason you copied Phillip Gerrie? How often do you write him?
