[Mickaboo Action] Foster homes needed!

I am looking for foster homes for the following three birds. Preliminary requests have gone unanswered, so I'm expanding the scope of my plea. Please, if you can help, let me know! Louie: a Green Cheek conure who had a miserable start in life. He has been through the Mickaboo system before, but is being returned because the family that adopted him is having a second baby and doesn't have time for him anymore. I contacted the lady he used to foster with and this is what she told me about his history: He was so darned sweet, but so darned scared. A girl brought him to me. She sold her computer to a guy and when she brought it to his apartment, he didn't have the money to pay her so he said he give her this "#*($#) bird" instead. He was verbally and physically abusive to Louie. Verbally abusive to his wife when the girl was there. Just a total jerk. He actually hit Louie. Told the girl that is how she has to handle this bird because he was so mean. She just took the bird and got out of there. Louie was incredibly scared when he came to our house .... He played beautifully on his cage and/or playgyms when he was at my house. He was no problem at all. Yes, he does bite and bites very hard. But, stick training is not difficult and you don't need to cuddle your bird. He apparently actually played dead (on his back, feet in the air) when one prospective adoptive family met him. He was terrified of the husband. According to the family returning him now, he still isn't fond of men. He really needs a loving home - I think with a woman would be best. Right now he's getting NO out-time. I'd really like to get him moved to a foster home that's willing to give him out-time and not expect that he be a cuddlebug, but give him time to trust again on his own terms. Possum: Possum is a well-socialized Patagonian conure. Her family divorced, her sister (a blue crowned conure) is going to a different home, and Possum needs someone to foster her too. Here is her story: Adopted 5 years ago from the person who hand raised me from an egg, but she could not keep me. Since I was hand raised I am a bit spoiled and like a lot of attention. I can be very sweet, but I am a little shy around new people. I like to whisper sweet nothings, literally, in your ear when I get to know and trust you. I have a pretty strong personality and can really let you know that by squawking! I like showers too. I like to go to bed with the sun by getting put inside my cage and covered so I am nice and cozy. I get up early and spend the day on top of my cage. I love to interact and chat and being sung to is the best, I love music. I enjoy watching the world go by and talk about that too. I like my seed and will nibble on Zupreme fruit blend. I like dried fruit and love fresh fruit and sometimes eat my vegetables. I am in good health. She comes from a loving environment, and I'd love to see her in a good foster home so that she stays well socialized - that will make it a lot easier to find her a forever home. Pierre: Pierre is a 3-year-old Dusky conure female (named before DNA testing was done!) The mom in the family is sick and is afraid of infection from her pets. All the pets have been moved to the garage or the outdoors except Pierre, who has moved into the 9-year-old daughter's room. She's very well socialized, will like on her back in a hand, etc., but isn't getting any out-time these days because the Mom doesn't want to handle her and won't let the daughter have her out without supervision. Pierre has taken to being very loud - very likely because she's gone from lots of attention to being in her cage 24/7. Again, it would be wonderful to get her into a foster home that can give her attention and love so that she stays well-socalized, which always makes it easier to find forever homes for the little feathered butts. Please, if you can help by fostering any of these birds, let me know. I would be exceedingly grateful, as would the conures. :) ~ Ailsa Conure Coordinator Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue Share your support of Mickaboo! Not just for cockatiels anymore!
